Frequently Asked Questions

What are the check-in/check-out times?

Check-in time is between 3:00pm - 8:00pm. In case of a late flight arrival, please notify us well in advance, so we can make arrangements for welcoming you. Check-out time is 11:00 am. Late check-outs are sometimes possible, however a fee may apply.

How many people can KMEC accommodate?

Based on all accommodations, we can lodge as many as 30 guests, not including camping. We also coordinate outside B&B rooms for overflow.

When is rainy season? When is the best time to schedule a workshop?

KMEC enjoys Hawaii's ideal climate: Light ocean breezes, sunny days, pleasant year-round temperatures (65-85°F) and occasional tropical showers. You may schedule your retreat any time of the year.

Will my cell phone work at KMEC?

AT&T phone and data works fine at KMEC. We have poor Verizon reception and other carriers vary. Skype works well here, as well as any other wifi connected forms of communication. We do not have a land line onsite.

How about Internet or wifi? Can I check email at KMEC?

Wireless internet is available in many areas of the property. Usage is free. We have free WI-FI at the dining area and yoga studio. Large downloads are strongly discouraged (it slows down bandwidth for everyone).

How about wild animals and creatures?

KMEC celebrates life in its myriad forms. We live in harmony with the jungle environment, which means you will probably encounter harmless creatures such as spiders, geckos and occasionally mongoose. We have the least amount of mosquitos on this side of the island due to our constant trade winds, and we do provide 100% natural repellents if you need it. Our accommodations are simple and comfortable, with no televisions or phones.

Is smoking permitted at KMEC?

We ask that you would kindly refrain from smoking on property. If you do smoke, perhaps enjoy the beautiful one way Mango road, its only a half mile to the ocean  :)

Do you provide transportation to and from the Hilo airport?

We offer affordable transportation for our guests. The price is dependent on the number of people in your group and number of trips necessary. Contact us for a quote on an airport pickup. The regular rate is about $100 one-way ($180 round-trip) total for up to 6 passengers in our 7 seater minivan.

The cost of pickup and drop off for your participants is NOT included in our group rates unless specified to be included.

Do I need to rent a car?

We are located 30 minutes from the nearest town. There are many natural attractions in the vicinity. We can help arranging a paid adventure with a local tour guide for you upon request. If you prefer to explore on your own, renting a car from the airport is a good option. We recommend our group leaders have access to a car for their events.

Are children welcome to KMEC?

Children are always welcome at KMEC. However, we do not provide childcare. We can provide contact information for several reliable childcare providers in the area.

Reviews

Great Venue for a Vacation

“Great food, very beautiful and relaxing, close to one of the best beaches on the island. Very good place to be with friends or a partner, the staff is so friendly, and great connection to nature, beautiful meditation hall as well.” - Be’erit

KMEC is a Gem

“KMEC was a deeply supportive and beautiful place to host our retreat. The setting is stunning with hundreds of fruit trees and lush vegetation all around. Our group loved the facility and the staff, who were all incredibly loving, supportive, and worked with us on every detail of our stay. I highly recommend hosting your retreat on this land steeped in healing energy.” - Cat

A Remote Paradise

"KMEC is a beautifully unique spot. I ran a summer program for 28 people, so we rented the entire retreat center and were there for 5 weeks. We had an incredible time. One of the most remote and beautifully nestled spots I’ve ever experienced. Wonderful and kind staff, and great vegan dining. Would love to spend more time there in the future.” - Jeff

Excellent Place and People to Spend a Relaxing Time

“We had a wonderful experience staying at KMEC. We had vacationed on a farm in the past in Hawaii, but this was totally different and turned out to be better than our previous experience. In a 5-minute drive, you can reach natural hot pools. The place is on a remote part of the island and is off the grid. All kinds of fruit trees and got to taste some tropical fruits which we had never tasted. The people were amazing. We liked the vegan food that was cooked and served. We got to hear some nice music played by the people staying there. Although I am not a big Yoga person, doing Yoga in the Yoga hale with the gentle breeze touching your face, was wonderful. The whole staff was very friendly and in the short time (7 days) we stayed there we formed a small community. We were so happy that we cooked a dish for one of the days. They also let us drink the coconut water and Lenny was kind to offer us Kombucha and wheatgrass. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I will come back again to this place.” - Dhiraj

Restful Meditation and Yoga Retreat

“The private cabin was perfect with bath attached. Loved that. Food was fabulous. Off the grid and green which is a plus for some. I would return. Thank you for your hospitality. Hope to return someday. I live in Michigan.” - Cheryl

Beautiful Land and Amazing Meditation Retreat Experience

“I recently stayed at Kirpal for a meditation retreat and had an amazing experience. The land itself is beautiful with lots of fruit trees, a variety of cabins for visitors to stay in and land to camp on. The land felt happy and cared for. Our group enjoyed the visits from some of the animal life and the sounds of the Coqui frogs at night. It’s just a short (and gorgeous) walk from the ocean and some really neat warm ponds. I look forward to coming back here again in the near future! Strongly recommend! Thank you Kirpal for your hospitality!" - Kai

Loved It So Much We Came Back

“This was our second stay at the meditation lodge as we loved it so much the first time we came back. the first time we were in the mango cabin and had a shared bathroom. We really like that experience but our teenagers really wanted a private bathroom so we booked the dragonfly. We loved the screened-in porch but missed the open shower. The staff is very friendly. If you like tranquility and peace, then try this lodge." - John
